This process can be performed more than once, consuming one unit of the ingredient each time. The first analysis, at a cost of 10 work units, identifies the ingredient’s primary trait; the second, at a cost of 20 work units, identifies its secondary trait; and the third, at a cost of 30 work units, identifies its tertiary trait. Thus, identifying all three of an ingredient’s traits consumes three units of the ingredient and costs 60 work units in total. Subsequent analyses must be performed by the same alchemist, i.e. merely being told an ingredient’s primary trait is not sufficient to allow analysis of its secondary trait.

This process grants the character a close understanding of the ingredient that will grant a discount to research targets when using it. Note that while the alchemist can tell others the ingredient’s traits (which can be invaluable for research), this does not also confer the discount.

| Description || At the conclusion of this rite, the caster becomes aware if the target item or creature is enchanted (per [[Detect Magic]]), the mix of sphere(s) present, and a specific mechanical description of the enchantment’s effects, including duration and charges. If the target creature is afflicted with a magical disease, poison or other effect, the spell identifies the affliction and effects, and reveals the conditions for removing it.
This rite does not normally reveal any traits specified as hidden from detection.

Description The character can, with access to a laboratory and at a cost in work units, identify the alchemical traits of herbs or other ingredients. Analysis destroys one unit of an ingredient.
