Name Gemsmith
Cost 8 points
Prerequisites Jeweller
Key Words Archetype / Creator / Work Units
Description The character can, with access to a jeweller's bench and a cost in work units and materials, work raw gems into a usable form and etch them with magical seals.

The Gemsmith skill encompasses the following processes:

  • Cleansing — The character can remove impurities from a gem, stripping it of colour to increase its value and magical potential.
  • Cutting — The character can cut a gem to a specific purpose, shaping its magical potential. Cuts are purpose-based and can be applied to any clean gem.
  • Etching Seals — The character can etch a magical seal onto a cut gem, fixing a specific spell effect into the stone.

On learning this skill, the character must choose one of the following starting cuts and seals:

  • First Restorative Cut and Seal of Lesser Healing
  • First Manipulation Cut and Seal of Mending
  • First Knowledge Cut and Seal of Spirit Reading

With research, the character can learn additional cuts and seals across all purposes and tiers.

Note: Etched gems expire three years after the seal is applied and cannot be maintained or renewed.

See Gemsmithing for full details on processes, costs and available purposes.

Note: This skill grants 5 Work Units per day. The number of work units the character can benefit from each day depends on their cap. See Magic Points, Stamina and Work Units for more.

Progression None
