The character may, after 10 minutes roleplaying examination of a document or item, determine general information about its probable origins or provenance. The information gained will be determined by a referee and may be more or less detailed depending on the character's relevant knowledge, but might include:
- Information about the item's geographic origin ("the paper used suggests this letter probably comes from Erin")
- Information about the creator's background ("the handwriting style suggests the sender is most likely an Albionian noble")
- Information about the item's age ("based on the condition of the binding, this book appears to be very old")
- If a second example is available for comparison, whether the sender/maker appears to be the same person
- Indications that the document or item could be a forgery ("one of the pigments in this painting was not available in the painter's lifetime")
- Other information about the item's history at the referee's discretion
